KRISZTINA SOMOGYI LAUDATION

It would be difficult to put the magic of puppetry into words, as poets, actors, and theorists have sought to define it, but so far no concept has been devised that accurately describes the magic that we all know and love so much. It certainly requires a performer, it certainly requires an audience, and it certainly requires puppets.

The management of Kabóca Puppet Theater is extremely proud to have its own workshop, and since Kabóca has been an institution for almost 25 years, we have been producing the puppets needed for our performances ourselves under official theater conditions for 25 years. These are the artistic objects without which the aforementioned miracle could never have come into being. Today, this professionalism and the knowledge necessary for production are lacking in most theaters, so the work carried out in the Kabóca Puppet Theater workshop is also lacking. Krisztina Somogyi is the indispensable driving force behind this workshop: she is the only person in the history of Kabóca without whom the production of shows would not have been possible for a single moment. As a puppet maker and seamstress, she has created thousands of puppets, costumes, and props, and over the course of a quarter century, she helped thousands of kids learn to use scissors, paint with brushes, and glue paper. She is the kind of theater backstage worker whose work is always in the spotlight. Nothing is impossible for her, everything she does is of high quality, and it is no coincidence that her name is known throughout the Hungarian puppet theater profession. It is impossible to count how many designers have said with a half-smile at a certain point in the design process: "Kriszta will do it." Dear Kriszta, thank you for your dedication, your diligence, the way you are a member of this company, and the love and professionalism you give us every day.

Based on the unanimous decision of the Board of Trustees, the director of Kabóca Puppet Theater has awarded Krisztina Somogyi lifetime membership.
